The practice of crafting talismans is rather simple, however there are a few things one can do to improve the quality of the talisman. I've been practicing talismanic magic longer than just about anything, so I've a few tricks I'd like to share that have enhanced my workings.
The first thing I suggest doing is creating your own magical square by taking apart your magical motto. This sounds laborious but is actually rather simple. First trace out a 5 x 5 square, I suggest using a ruler. Number the boxes above the square on the bottom and on the side, but include a six to the far side and top of the square. Now write down your magical motto (ex. Kutulu fathogan) and cross out letters that repeat themselves stopping at the fifth (ex. Kutlf). This becomes the first line on the square, the next lines are made by adding the rest of the alphabet (remember to not add a letter twice and to not include a Y, instead change Y to I). This square can be used for a number of purposes, namely creating barbarous chants for the empowerment of the talisman, but can also be used for divining the names of spirits and the creation of a sigil.
Next I suggest gathering a number of symbols and divining names relevant to the purpose of the talisman you are creating. This should include at least the name of a spirit, the planetary symbol most relevant, a sigil, and a line from a book that has had a strong impact on your psychological development. The sigil can be created using the magical square, write a one word description of what you wish to accomplish with the talisman, draw a circle over the first letter in the word on the square, trace till you get to the last letter and mark it with an arrow or an x. the spirit name can be divined by using the square, take a six sided die and roll it twice, once to see how far up to go and once to see how far to the side to go. If you roll a 6 you've reached the end of the spirit's name.
When you have everything gathered you can begin crafting your talisman. First trace a circle, triangle, or whatever, but make it to where there are two lines around it wide enough to write into. Put your book line in between the lines. Next you need to incorporate your sigil and the planetary symbol into the central part of the talisman. I would simply draw the sigil then place the planetary symbol in a blank space. Finally you will need to place the spirit's name onto the talisman. This can be done by writing it over the sigil.
Now that you have a talisman it needs to be empowered. Again we turn to the magical square, first roll a 6 sided die to determine how many lines are going to be in your mantra, then roll to see how many words are in each line. Finally construct the words the same way you constructed the spirit's name. When this is done place your talisman between two candles and slowly vibrate the mantra over and over until you feel tired enough to take a nap, or until a sense of vertigo or vertigo like symptoms set in. your talisman will be charged after this. Place the talisman into an envelope with proper postage and write out the senders address (randomly chosen from the phone book, replacing the name with “Them”) on the front. Finally, leave the area. Drop the letter into a mail box (not your own!) and begin going somewhere completely new and laugh, laugh as hard and as loud as you can. People may think your insane, but that's part of the fun of it.
